Activated Charcoal is designed to help aid in digestion or to help eliminate toxins. It is especially beneficial for budgies, canaries, finches and other small birds. In a case of heavy metal poisoning, medication overdose, or toxin ingestion is suspected, Activated Charcoal can absorb the toxins and help to eliminate them quickly.

It is recommended to always have Activated Charcoal under your hand, in your first aid kit for a case of accidental ingestion of a toxin. Giving a small amount of activated charcoal, it’s often what veterinary hospitals would do upon suspicion of the bird having ingested a paint flake, lead or any other toxic substance.

Activated Charcoal should be offered in the cage in small quantities. It’s an excellent digestive aid. However, if a bird starts to consume it readily, it may be a signal that your bird is trying to combat parasites, pathogenic bacteria in the gut, or maybe it’s indication that something is going on in the bird’s body that is not quite healthy.

Recommendation for use:

• When changing to another diet: Administer for 1 – 2 days.
• After the use of medications: Administer for 2 days in a row.
• In a case of diarrhea: Administer for 3 – 4 consecutive days.

If you suspect that your bird is in distress, consult with your veterinarian.

Activated Charcoal can affect the absorption of medications or vitamins.

Consult with your vet regarding your bird’s need for Activated Charcoal.

Directions for use:
Add 1 measuring spoon (5g) to 250g of egg food.
Or, offer it mixed with girt in a separate treat cup.
